2011/2012 Rhythms of Monobloco course

A ten session course in the rhythms of Rio's most popular, modern day street bloco, Monobloco, the course is open to drummers with one or more years experience on a samba school bateria instrument i.e. surdo, caixa de guerra, repique, tamborim, agogo or chocalho/ganza. Participants will learn arrangments and lyrics for traditional and modern carnival tunes just as you would hear them on the streets of Rio today. Time will also be spent on technique during each session. The course will be accompanied by written and audio material so participants can practice in between sessions.

The group will join up with other students on similar courses round the country to form a large bateria and perform with invited guests from Monobloco in 2012. There is also an opportunity for participants to travel to Rio to perform with Monobloco in their legendary shows at the Fundicao Progresso in Lapa during Carnival time.  If you are interested please register with us.
